For our Legal Affairs-Patents department in Lugano we are looking for a Patent Attorney (permanent contract/ full-time job). The candidate will report into the Head of the patent Department and his/her responsibilities will include:

  • Review of results from scientific development activities to provide advice on patentability
  • Conduct legal, technical and scientific literature research
  • Drafting, filing, handling patent applications and developing patent strategies
  • Providing support and co-ordinate activities of external patent law-firms
  • Monitoring third parties patent activities, in particular checking patent databases and providing advice on protection and defense of intellectual property rights
  • Management of passive and active oppositions and litigations
  • Due diligence and freedom to operate assessments

The successful candidate has the following qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in the role in the pharmaceutical field, preferably as in-house counsel
  • Qualification as European Patent Attorney or Registered Patent Lawyer in European jurisdictions or equivalent
  • A Master’s Degree in a Chemistry, Life Science or Pharmaceuticals related discipline
  • High level of integrity and motivation, ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English is essential, other languages are a plus
